performed at:
“Trampolim” event by Gerador magazine Embaixada, Lisbon October 2015 Comissioned for the project: PLACE | LUGAR Composition created by Sara Rodrigues and Rodrigo B. Camacho Performers: CNE - Câmara Nova Ensemble Voice - Daniela Daraban Voice - Jéssica Sá Flute -Eva Mendonça Flute - Joana Mendes Violin - Lyza Valdman Viola - Sérgio Sousa Cello - Eduardo Caldeira Percussion -Diogo Castro Percussion - Rodrigo B. Camacho The performance was created from a poem by Ana Hatherly titled “Balada do país que doi” (Balad of the country that hurts) from her series “Um calculador de improbabilidades” (A calculator of improbabilities). The poem refers to the portuguese people, using various verbs to describe their actions, such as “vai e vem” (comes and goes), used for the title of the piece. This material is used along with the answers from a questionaire made to the performers which included a personality test, information about their civil identity along with other random quesitons. The sonorities of the piece were taken from the harmonic fields of traditional Madeira songs, specially the ones about the ‘borracheiros’ from Porto da Cruz. Based on a bottom-up approach, roles and insructions are determined according to the performers' various personality traits. Performers are divided in groups (satelites-identity speakers, poem-speakers, improvisers) in which their identity and location in space changes throughout the piece. The performance is devided in 3 continuous parts and last 45 minutes. |
