“Sem Quartel” / "Without Mercy” Sismógrafo, Porto April 2014 The Return video projection, board (40’) on loop The video recording uses painted clay sculptures taken from a previous work “The Allegory of Stone”, which reproduce (three-dimensionally) line abstractions found in stones at the same beach where the video was shot at. The footage was recorded in a one sequence still for the duration of the piece. The sculptures slowly deteriorate, whilst clay bursts in waves, before totally disappearing. The beach is found at an edge of Portugal, where the shore looks more into the infinite Atlantic ocean that Europe itself. The piece was shown at the exhibition ‘Sem Quartel’ which was produced for the celebration of the 25th of April, Portugal’s independence day from the fascist regime of Salazar. |
