arebyte gallery London City Island Presented for 'Under Control', a programme of performances of new music and installation by the New Maker Ensemble. During Concertina, a project by artist Richard Wentworth and architects APPARATA. . Composed by by Sara Rodrigues and Rodrigo B. Camacho Developed and performed by Roxanna Albayati Jamie Hamilton Neil Luck Marat Ingeldeev Ragnar Árni Ólafsson Pascal Colman Chase Coley 30 minutes performance Stratification, predictive systems, opinions, structural behaviour, political force, subjective power, relative positioning, pressure, emergence, governance, free agency, public, cohesiveness, relational conditions. The performance is largely based on the interactions performers have with an online google doc file, using laptops and musical instruments alike on stage. Such interactions mainly consist in editing text live and performatively improvising on what the text says at each given point. There are different characters with distinct behavioural traits. Some performers are permanently assigned one sole character which they play throughout the piece (Government and Bureaucracy). Others cyclically rotate between other characters (Active / Passive citizens and Campaigner). Each character is attributed a specific position in space, which means that performers who rotate amongst characters have to physically move across the stage between different positions. Audience members are able to influence the sentence structures / score by interacting with each performer or commenting on the tweeter feed (with a public opinion translator), whilst the IMF bodiless voice punctuates the performance and controls its ending. |
