Circular Exclusion targets the  topic of social clashes and aims to enact their emergence as a consequence of inequality, linking it to notions of place, identity, centrality and marginality, effort and limits. Participants will have to run and sing in a circular movement, without using anything but their own bodies and voices. They will directly experience the struggle of maintaining a uniform pace under unequal conditions, showing how the system, which can be either a social or performative structure, may affect human beings in their very psycho-physical dimension.

Participants (representing citizens) are lined in a row (social organisation) constituting the radius of a large circumference, transversely going from the centre to the periphery. They all are set to run circularly (life), trying to maintain the row’s regular shape whilst performing concentrically organised running-paths (social classes). This means that the more distant participants are from the centre, the bigger their path is, so some will inevitably have to run more than others.

Once the most peripheral performers reach the limit of their physical capacities, they react by singing or saying something which is culturally and personally dear to them and their (real) lives. After having used their few chances to move to a more central position, they will cease to accompany the row’s stable pace, eventually making the piece stop by lack of activity.
